Introduction
Following the closure of several environmental centres, SGC was founded in January 2005 by *Simon Smith. Many will already know Simon through his extensive work with schools in Hertforshire and the surrounding area. Simon has assembled a highly-skilled team of education, environment & conservation experts who now serve a wide audience.

SGC works according to the code of practice of the IEEM (Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management).
The School Grounds Consultancy aims to create and manage areas of natural habitat which encourage the flora & fauna local to that area. This provides a wonderful learning & teaching resource for children and teaching staff. Indeed, SGC's slogan is "making the most of the outdoor classroom". This applies equally to urban and rural schools and colleges. Please visit our Training page for details of our courses for teachers and other interested parties.
* Simon is the Managing Director of SGC. He is qualified as a teacher and is also a Full Member of the IEEM. He is registered by the Society For The Environment as a Chartered Environmentalist. He has wide experience of working at all levels as a science teacher, field studies teacher and head of department. His work as a county advisor for outdoor learning environments has given him a clear, analytical and focused understanding of what works best in schools and how to achieve clients' goals in an effective and efficient way.
